The Typical Wedding Gift Registry

There are various types of registries. Baby registries. House warming registries. Luckily, wedding registries are basically the same. Whether you’re buying a new house together for the first time or just updating your current stash, this registry includes all the conventional — and still very popular — household necessities.

1. Kitchen appliances: These items, by a landslide, are the most popular.  This list includes items such as gourmet coffee makers, crock pots, deep fryers, grills, etc.

2. Kitchen Accessories: A bit smaller, this list includes little knick-knacks you would likely never go out and buy for yourself but that you’d still love to have.

3. Luggage: A necessity for any couple and the perfect gift for the honeymoon, obviously.

4. Dinnerware:  Plates, bowls, spoons, fine china and more. Every couple deserves to have matching place settings for their guests, right?

5. Cookware/Bakeware:  I recommend collections from the Food Network, but that’s just my opinion. The bride will definitely put these items to use!

6. Towel Sets:  This one is not common, but it’s a necessity! Matching towels for the bathroom and kitchen are highly recommended. Find unique but popular patterns.

7. Bedding:  This is also uncommon but something that is extremely trendy. Especially if the bride likes to swap out her bedding every now and then!

Timeless Traditions: Love Letter Ceremony

Weddingstar Love Letter Ceremony Box Set

While the unity sand ceremony is a popular choice, the love letter ceremony is quickly rising to the top of the charts.  It is a special moment when the bride and groom ceremoniously exchange love letters, locking them into a box and sealing it with a kiss and a toast.  While you likely have some ideas floating around about the best wedding accessories to remember this special time, consider capturing the romance with a Love Letter Ceremony. This is a great alternative to the traditional unity candle ceremony, and provides a unique way to remember your wedding day long after the honeymoon.

Most Love Letter Ceremony Sets include a beautiful pair of wine goblets, exclusive wedding stationery for the bride and groom, and a place to lay a special bottle of wine to share later in your marriage. Before the wedding day, the bride and groom each write a love letter expressing their deepest feelings towards each other. They may explain exactly what it is about the other person that they love so much, their goals for their future, and even some special memories they shared together.

The bride and groom will then close the box and lock it with a key. The newlyweds will have this box and its contents as a special memory of their commitment to each other. When the time comes, whether in the midst of hardship or while celebrating their 5 year Anniversary, the couple can reopen the case and relive that special moment when they said, “I do.” The letters will finally be shared along with a special wedding day bottle of wine.

History of the Groom’s Cake

Weddingstar

Dating back to the 19th century, the tradition of the Grooms Cake is definitely making its come-back. Legend has it that the single women at the wedding would take a slice of the groom cake home and put it under their pillows. That night they would dream about their future husbands.

These days, the Grooms cake is made of chocolate or red velvet cake and is offered as an alternative to the traditional vanilla cake. Meant to be a gift from the bride to the groom (often a surprise), the cake can come in any flavor, shape or theme.

If served at the reception, this cake can be set next to the traditional wedding cake or wheeled out to surprise the groom. If large enough, it can be cut and boxed for guests to take home.  Regardless of how you serve it, make sure that you select a cake that reflects the grooms personality and style! It’s sure to be a night that he won’t forget!

History of the Wedding Ring

Lillian Rose Happily Ever After Pillow

Whether you have already said “I Do” or you’re just browsing in a window, you’ve seen your share of wedding rings in your time. In almost all cultures, the wedding ring symbolizes the unity of two people, but these different societies also have different customs associated with the wedding ring.

Wedding Ring – Various Traditions
Generally, the wedding ring (also commonly a wedding band, is made of a precious material such as gold and silver. Depending on your culture’s tradition and customs, the ring can be worn on the third finger, more commonly known as the ring finger, on either the left or right hand. The wedding ring symbolizes a commitment by one person to another.

With many cultures, the wedding ring is the ultimate gift given from one spouse to the other. In almost every culture the wedding ring is preceded in the relationship by another ring, the engagement ring.

In the United States, the responsibility of caring for the soon to be joined man and wife falls to the best man. The best man is responsible for carrying the rings to the altar and presenting them to the individual officiating, who in turn will present the rings to the bride and groom so that they may exchange them. Modern tradition has the rings bring carried on a pillow by a “ring bearer” usually a male child, who will present them to the best man at the altar.

Why is the Wedding Ring Worn on the Ring Finger?

Years ago, during the Renaissance, it was generally accepted that the “ring finger” located on the left hand contained the “vena amoris”, also known as the “love vein”.

Wedding Gown Advice: Splash Some Color !

Weddingstar 2-Tier White Standard Tulle Veil - Floor Length

Gone are the days when brides opt for a white wedding gown. More and more brides are adding a splash of color to their dresses to express their unique personalities and to keep the wedding look modern.

Color can be added to a wedding dress through various methods: with embroidery, a band at the top of the neckline or bottom of the hem, within an open train, or a sash around the waist. Modern brides are incorporating their favorite colors be it purple, green, or black or just adding color to match with their bridal party. You may opt for a wedding gown that isn’t white at all. It may be shocking to your guests, but it will also be memorable.

Perhaps you have a vintage gown that has been in your family for years. If the dress has some stains, but the fabric is in decent condition, speak with a professional and find out if the dress will withstand being dyed a slightly darker color. It is a great way to preserve a piece of your family history as well as save your budget from an expensive new gown.

You don’t have pick a bold, vibrant down. Some brides opt for a colored dress for practical reasons. It could be that pure white doesn’t flatter your skin tone or it won’t go well with the color scheme that you have selected.

Artificial Flowers to Relieve Wedding Stress

Weddingstar Square Vase

Many of us have daydreamed about the day when we will walk down the isle ever since childhood, right down to the gown we will wear, what our hair will look like, and the colors in our bouquet. Planning your wedding, although tremendously exciting, can often feel overwhelming without some sort of guidance.

When you are planning your wedding you need to make sure that there is a person that is assigned to pick up your guestbook, toasting glasses, cameras, and so on from the tables. These things can easily be forgotten.

Do not bring a date to a wedding that you are invited to unless the invitation specifically stated that it was okay to bring a guest. The bride and groom might be on a budget and may not be able to afford having too many guests at their wedding.

Don’t put so much time and energy into what you want your name to be when you’re getting married. A name is just a name and it can be whatever you want it to be. You don’t even have to change it if you don’t want to. Don’t get stressed about it.

As the bride, it is very important that you have a dress that you feel mentally comfortable in. If you are very self-conscious in your wedding dress, you will be very unhappy during the event. The wedding lasts a long time and it is your night, so you want to be happy and comfortable the entire time!

Artificial Flowers

Consider using fake flowers for your wedding. This saves a lot of money and most people will not be able to tell that they aren’t real. If you are crafty, you can put together the arrangement yourself in advance of your big day. You can also spray a floral scent on the bouquet if you want the flowers to smell fresh.

Planning for your big day does not have to feel overwhelming, by listening to advice and suggestions of those who have gone before you, you can organize the day of your dreams with a minimum of stress and anxiety. You might even find that you enjoy planning for your wedding almost as much as the big event itself!
